Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM)- The Minnesota Twins added Georgia Tech catcher Vahn Lackey with the third overall pick in the MLB Draft, marking their highest draft selection since taking shortstop Royce Lewis first overall in 2017.
Lackey batted nearly .400 with 20 home runs and 78 RBIs in 61 games this season for the Yellow Jackets. He was named a First Team All-American and won the Johnny Bench Award, given annually to the top catcher in college baseball.
The 21-year-old is the highest-drafted catcher in Twins history since Joe Mauer went first overall in 2001.
