Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Lynx are looking to right the ship tonight, facing the Connecticut Sun for the second time in three days after dropping back-to-back games for the first time in weeks.
Minnesota fell to Connecticut 90-89 on Monday night in a game that came down to the final possession. The Sun led by as many as nine points, while the Lynx’s largest lead was just two, with neither team pulling away until Connecticut closed it out at the line, shooting 17-of-29 from the free-throw stripe compared to Minnesota’s 17-of-19.
Kayla McBride led the Lynx with 28 points on 10-of-19 shooting, adding four three-pointers. Courtney Williams added 23 points and six assists, and Natasha Howard finished with 18 points and six rebounds. Connecticut got a game-high 29 points and 10 rebounds from Brittney Griner, who shot 11-of-14 from the field, while Kennedy Burke added 16 points off the bench. The Sun’s reserves outscored Minnesota’s bench 27-16, and Connecticut also won the rebounding battle 47-40.
Monday’s loss came two days after the Lynx fell 99-86 to the New York Liberty on Friday, marking Minnesota’s first back-to-back losses in over a month.
Despite the skid, the Lynx remain among the top teams in the league at 15-6, tied with the Las Vegas Aces atop the Western Conference. Connecticut sits at the bottom of the Eastern Conference at 5-16.
Tonight’s rematch tips off at 6:30 p.m. Central at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville. The Lynx are back home Saturday, July 11th, to host New York.
