Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Twins extended their winning streak to four games with a 6-0 shutout of the Boston Red Sox Tuesday night at Target Field.
Right-hander Mick Abel was dominant on the mound, striking out ten batters while allowing just four hits over seven scoreless innings on 90 pitches. Abel earned his first win of the season and lowered his ERA to 0.00 through his first two starts.
Byron Buxton powered the offense with a four-hit night that included two home runs and four runs scored. Brooks Lee also went deep, finishing 1-for-4 with a solo shot.
The Twins jumped on Red Sox starter Sonny Gray early, plating a run in the 1st inning and another in the 3rd before breaking the game open with three runs in the 4th. Gray lasted just four innings, giving up nine hits and five earned runs.
Trevor Larnach drove in two runs and Luke Keaschall added two hits and an RBI for Minnesota, which finished with ten hits as a team. Cole Sands and Taylor Rogers each pitched a scoreless inning of relief to finish off the shutout.
The Twins sit atop the AL Central at 11-and-7, one game ahead of the Cleveland Guardians. Boston has now dropped to 6-and-11 on the season, last in the AL East.
Minnesota wraps up the three-game series with the Red Sox this afternoon. First pitch is set for 12:40 p.m. with Simeon Woods Richardson on the mound for the Twins.
