Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Twins are keeping faith in their top talent, with The Athletic reporting that the organization has no plans to trade away three of its most valuable players this offseason.
Outfielder Byron Buxton and pitchers Joe Ryan and Pablo Lopez will all remain with the franchise as Minnesota looks to bounce back from a disappointing 2024 campaign that saw the team finish 70-92, their worst record since 2016.
The decision to retain the trio signals the Twins’ belief that their core remains strong enough to compete, despite last season’s struggles. Both Ryan and Buxton earned American League All-Star selections in 2024, demonstrating their continued value even as the team faltered overall.
Buxton, when healthy, remains one of baseball’s most dynamic center fielders, combining elite defense with power at the plate. Ryan has emerged as a reliable presence in the rotation, while Lopez provides veteran stability on the mound.
The Twins now face the challenge of building around these three players to return to contention in the AL Central. After missing the playoffs following their worst season in nearly a decade, the organization appears committed to internal improvement rather than a rebuild.
As the offseason progresses, Minnesota’s front office will need to address the issues that led to their steep decline while banking on their established stars to lead a turnaround in 2025.
