Laker Boys and Girls Track Teams Head To State As Section 8AA True Team Champions

FERGUS FALLS, MN (KDLM) – The Detroit Lakes Lakers Track and Field Teams swept the Section 8AA True Team Meet in Fergus Falls on Tuesday afternoon and will represent 8AA at the State True Team Meet in Stillwater on May 20th.

The Laker Girls defended their 8AA True Team title from last year with a team score of 595.

Abby Larson won both the 100m and 200m dash on Tuesday to help pace the Lakers to their first-place finish. Rylee Johnson won the 100m hurdles, and the Laker 4×100 team of Johnson, Larson, Mamie Hunter, and Jerzie Horner also took first place.

Julia Steffl finished the 3200m run in third place, Hannah Barberg was fourth in the 800m with Marin Johnson finishing fifth. The Laker 4×400 relay team of Haydon King, Helena Daggett, Grace Gunderson, and Lila Kallstrom took fourth place, and the 4×800 team of Johnson, Daggett, Ava Jones, and Amaya LeCleir also placed fourth. Ella Paulson placed third in the 100m dash and fifth in the 200m.

In the field events, Grace Gunderson and Rylee Johnson finished first and second overall, and Jacee Hauser finished second in both the shot put and discuss. Elle Bettcher was third in discus, and Brena Skadsem was eighth in the shot put. Mamie Hunter and Haydon King finished seventh and eighth, respectively, in the long jump, and Jerzie Horner placed second in the pole vault.

On the boys side, Ethan Carrier and Mason Carrier finished first and second in the 100m dash, with Ethan also winning the 200m dash. Mason Carrier, along with Jack Pace, Jake Pavek and Brady Wirtz, were the winners of the 4×100 relay,

Evan Thomas was third in the 400m, Connor Jenson was sixth in the 800m and Alexander Fletcher was third in the 110m hurdles. The 4×200 relay team of Ethan Carrier, Tyler Ostilie, Brandton Marsh and Brady Wirtz finished second overall, and the 4×800 team of Ryan Erickson, Jackson Maasjo, Connor Jensen, and Xander Jessen placed sixth.

On the field side, Brandton Marsh won the long jump and finished second in the triple jump, Evan Thomas was third in the high jump, and Coye Braten was eighth in the pole vault. Mason Carrier and Braydon Sjoblom finished third and fourth in the shot put, and Lawsom Greene was fifth in the discus.

The Lakers’ next meet will be the Mid-State Conference Meet in Pequot Lakes on Tuesday, May 16th before heading to the State True Team meet in Stillwater on Saturday, May 20th.
