Laker Girls Track and Field First, Boys Second at Craig Fredrickson Invite

Detroit Lakes, Minn (KDLM) – Detroit Lakes Track and Field hosted their first meet of the season on Thursday, with the girls placing first and the boys taking second at the annual Craig Fredrickson Memorial Invite at Mollberg Field.

The Laker girls were paced by first-place finishes by Abby Larson (100m), Rylee Johnson (100m hurdles), Jacee Hauser (discus and shotput), Grace Gunderson (high jump), and Jerzie Horner (pole vault). The 4x100m relay team of Larson, Johnson, Horner, and Ella Paulson also finished in first place…five seconds ahead of the next finisher.

Paulson also placed second in the 200m. Other second-place finishers on Thursday included Marin Johnson (800m), Julia Steffl (3200m), Mallory Fischer (300m hurdles), Brenna Skadsem (shotput), Chelsea Stowe (discus), Haydon King (long jump), and Natalie Spindler (triple jump). The 4x200m relay team of Fischer, King, Tatum Rider, Mikayla Frentress, the 4x400m team of Gunderson, Sadie Johnson, Amaya LeCleir, Helena Daggett, and the 4x800m team of LeCleir, Daggett, Marin Johnson, and Hannah Barberg also finished second.

Steffl was also third in the 1600m, Rylee Johnson was third in the high jump, and Elle Bettcher placed third in both the shotput and discus.

On the boys side, first place-finishes by Ethan Carrier (100m and 200m), Alexander Fletcher (110m hurdles), Billy Thompson (high jump), and the 4x100m relay team of Mason Carrier, Jake Pavek, Jack Pace, and Ethan Carrier paced the Lakers to a second-place finish with a total of 158.2 points.

The Lakers had second-place finishes by Fletcher (high jump), Brady Wirtz (100m), Lawson Greene (discus), and Brandton Marsh (triple jump). The Laker 4×200 team of Tyler Ostilie, Bryant Kulzer, Jamus Walz and Davide Giambellini placed third overall in their race. Wirtz was also third in the 110m hurdles.

The Lakers will travel to Fergus Falls for the Section 8AA True Team meet on Tuesday, May 9th. The Laker Girls are looking to defend their True Team title and head back to State True Team for a second-straight season.

Detroit Lakes will then travel to Pequot Lakes on Tuesday, May 16th for the Mid-State Conference Meet.
