Detroit Lakes Baseball Suffers Road Loss to Little Falls

By Zeke Fuhrman May 4, 2023 | 10:56 AM

LITTLE FALLS, MN (KDLM) – The Laker baseball team ran into solid pitching on Wednesday afternoon, losing to the Little Falls Flyers 5-1. The Lakers struggled at the plate finishing with only one hit.

The Flyers had a solid pitching performance by Beau Thoma. Thoma pitched five solid innings for the Flyers and did an excellent job keeping the Laker batters off balance by mixing fastballs and breaking pitches. Detroit Lakes could never get comfortable at the plate, and Thoma only allowed one hit and one run while striking out 10 Laker batters.

DL’s Jacob Thomas pitched six innings for the Lakers, allowing five runs on seven hits, and walking six batters.

The third inning gave the Lakers the most problems as the Flyers started a two-out rally thanks to back-to-back two-out singles by Owen Bode and Beau Thoma. Flyer catcher Hudson Filippi made the Lakers pay thanks to a clutch three-run homer. The inning continued with a walk to Carter Gwost and a single by Carter Oothoudt. Gwost scored from third base when Oothhoudt got intentionally caught in a rundown between first and second base.

DL’s Josh Goodspeed scored the Laker’s only run of the ball game after being driven in by Jacob Thomas on an RBI single. The Lakers had some chances in the ball game as 9 Laker batters reached base on walks. Detroit Lakes left ten runners on base in the loss.

The Lakers’ record is now 6-2 overall and 0-2 in Section 8AAA games. The Flyers improve their record to 5-2 overall. The Lakers will look to bounce back on Friday when they host the Bemidji Lumberjacks at Washington Park. That game will be broadcasted on KDLM with pregame coverage beginning at 4:15 pm.
