Detroit Lakes Wrestling Falls to WCA at Lakeshirts Fieldhouse, 51-27

DETROIT LAKES, MN (KDLM) – The scheduled Detroit Lakes Triangular on January 27th became a regular dual (Crookston canceled school that morning), so the Lakers hosted Class A powerhouse West Central Area/Ashby/Brandon-Evansville at the Lakeshirts Fieldhouse.

The Knights showed why they are one of the best teams in Class A, beating the Lakers 51-27.

The dual began with the Knights scoring two pinfalls in the first two weight classes.  Then DL came back with two pinfalls to even the matchup at 12-12.  After that, the Knights were able to open a lead and never look back.

There were three highlight Top-10 battles on Friday night. At 145lbs, #8 Tyson Ullyot of the Lakers came from behind to win 9-8 in the last 20 seconds, coming from 8-7 down to win to defeat #5 Hunter Gruchow.  At 182lbs, #1 rated Class A wrestler and defending State Champ, Anthony Sykora of WCA defeated #7 Cade Jackson 4-1. At heavyweight, #5 Jeffrey Moen took down #7 Justin Blascyk with a late pinfall at 5:57.

The Lakers next match will be on the road to take on the DGF Rebels on Tuesday, January 31st at 7:30 pm on 102.3 KRCQ.
