Annual Detroit Lakes Parade of Lights Is Monday Night

Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The annual Parade of Lights down Washington Avenue in Detroit Lakes is tonight. DL Chamber of Commerce president Carrie Johnston says it’s the official kick-off to the holiday season in the Lakes Area.

“We’re ready to light up downtown,” Johnston said. “It’s kind of the unofficial start to the holiday season in our downtown. People have already been out and about shopping and dining, and this is another way that we celebrate our community.”

With the colder weather, the Parade of Lights is a shorter parade, and downtown businesses are more than happy to accommodate chilly parade spectators.

“A lot of our downtown retailers will be staying open late on Monday,” said Johnston. “Or they’ll be offering treats so come downtown a little bit early. Find your spot. There is no need for chairs because it is a quick parade, and a lot of the retailers will let you watch from inside their store if it gets too chilly outside. There are some great places to watch the parade indoors.”

The parade pre-party events begin at 5:00 with shopping on Holmes Street and Washington Avenue. The parade begins at 5:30 and will travel from the Zion Lutheran Church parking lot on Lake Ave, travel north to Frazee St for one block, then turn north to Front St before finishing down Washington Ave between the Detroit Lakes Library and the Washington Square Mall.
