PELICAN RAPIDS (KDLM) – Phoutthasa Prathane, the man involved in a Pelican Rapids shooting has now been charged with second degree attempted murder, three counts of first degree burglary and unlawful possession of a firearm.
Prathane shot a woman around 2:13 p.m. in Pelican Rapids on Sunday, April 10 then fled the scene.
A witness told police that Prathane was punching and kicking the victim then shot the victim in each leg and her lower abdomen. The victim, whose name has not yet been released said in court documents that she hadn’t spoken to Prathane since October 2021.
Prathane was arrested several days later on Tuesday morning in Redwood County after he failed to stop for failure to display a license plate. Prathane led deputies in a 3 mile pursuit before hitting stop sticks that were set up by the Redwood Falls Police Department.
After being intervied by investigators, Prathane admitted to shooting the victim, as well as admitted to fleeing to Iowa – he claims he was on his way back to Pelican Rapids to ‘take out’ the victim’s father when he was arrested.
An Otter Tail County Judge has set Prathane’s bail at $5,000,000. His next court appearance is May 2.
