PERHAM (KDLM) – Corey Hepola made his first official campaign stops in his hometown of Perham and New York Mills, Thursday.

Hepola, announced his intention to run for Governor of Minnesota in early March.

Hepola addressed a crowd of around 30, Thursday about the importance of rural communities in New York Mills before heading to Perham. “Otter Tail County will always be my home,” Hepola said. “It’s where I was taught the power of community and these communities have continued to support me throughout my career and I’m so thankful.”

In Perham, he met with members of the Perham Rotary Club and then stopped to speak at the elementary school where his sister teaches fourth grade on public speaking. Hepola says his campaign is focused on improving Minnesota schools, providing economic opportunities for communities small and large, and bringing a human-center to healthcare.

Hepola hasn’t provided many details behind his policies, but has hinted that he will reveal his full Education policy soon, “We are proposing streaming schooling…every student no matter where you live should have access to high quality online learning, this would be a state wide online program offered to students through local districts, this would be creating state of the art courses in specialized areas.”

Thursday’s trip kicked off a series of trips that Hepola and his team will be taking to rural communities across Minnesota.
