ST. PAUL, Minn. (KFGO) – The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has released the name of a woman who was shot by a Mahnomen County deputy last weekend.
20-year-old Shequoya Basswood of Mahnomen is hospitalized in Fargo.
The BCA says a deputy was trying to stop a car driven by Basswood for speeding on Highway 200. That officer’s car slid into the ditch and deputy Dakota Czerny picked up the pursuit. He forced Basswood’s car into the ditch in Naytahwaush. Two of the six people in the car ran, including Basswood. Investigators say she was shot when she showed a handgun.
One of the two men who ran from the scene has not been identified or located. Czerny is on standard administrative leave.
Charges will be considered by the county attorney’s office once the investigation is complete.
