Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Laker boys hockey team came from behind to beat the Thief River Falls Prowlers at home on Thursday night 2-1.

The Lakers fell behind with 4:53 left in the second period when Prowler sophomore Braydin Lund scored the game’s first goal, beating Laker goalie Elijah Blow with a slap shot as he crossed the blue line. Less than a minute later, the Lakers answered back when defenseman Jack Turner scored from the point, beating Prowler goalie Brett Holmer to tie the game at one with 4:06 remaining in the second period.

In the third period, there was back and forth action as both teams brought a defensive approach to the game with only 26 shots total for both teams, with Prowlers outshooting the Lakers 16-10. Despite being outshot, Detroit Lakes scored the game-winner with approximately four minutes left in the game. Senior Jordan Fields scored a wrap-around goal from behind the net, beating Holmer on his blocker side, giving the Lakers their first lead of the game and ultimately giving the Lakers the win improving their record to 10-4 overall.

The Lakers are now 5-2 in section play. DL has now won seven of their last eight games with the win.

The loss drops the Prowlers record to 5-8 overall, and they are now 3-3 in section play.

The win significantly increases Detroit Lakes’ chances of securing the number three seed in the Section 8A playoffs, which begin February 24th.

Next up, DL will host Prairie Centre on Thursday, January 20th.
