DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – Soldiers with the Minnesota Army National Guard marched down Washington Avenue in Detroit Lakes, Saturday collecting non-perishable food items for the Becker County Food Pantry.

The event, Operation Hunger Resolve began at 1 p.m. as soldiers marched from Veteran’s Memorial Park up Washington Ave. on their way to the Becker County Food Pantry. People lined the streets of Washington Ave. and helped fill their rucksacks.

“It was really important to show that we are a part of the community, we are not separated from the community. We work in these communities, we live here and without community support a lot of this stuff would not happen,” said Captain Zachary Hendrickson with Minnesota National Guard in an interview with KVRR TV.

A total of 980 pounds of food was collected during the drive, Saturday.
