DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – Enjoying holiday lights from your car is a great way to get into the holiday spirit, but it can also be extremely dangerous if you’re not careful.
Warmer weather forecasted in the next couple of weeks and how early it gets dark this time of year could increase pedestrians out for evening walks as the holiday lights are turning on says AAA.
“Holiday lights are beautiful to look at, but can also be a dangerous distraction for passing motorists,” said Meredith Mitts, spokesperson for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Distracted drivers moving through a residential area at night can be a recipe for disaster, especially if there are pedestrians in the area.
AAA is urging holiday revelers to remain focused on the road while driving and to pullover when viewing holiday lights.
Additionally, if you visit a drive-thru event and are asked to turn off your headlights, remember to turn them back on when you exit.
