Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Laker boys basketball team won their first game of the new season as they beat Barnesville 77-58 on Friday night at the Ralph Anderson Gymnasium. The Lakers never trailed in the game and moved to 1-0 on the season.
Detroit Lakes jumped out to a 28-14 lead in the first half when Barnesville went on a 14-3 run to go into halftime with a score of 31-28.
Detroit Lakes once again found their offense in the 2nd half, with Mason Carrier finishing the night with 24 points. Nate Cihak also had a solid second half as he scored 13 of his 16 points in the second half. Other contributors for the Lakers were Christian Solberg scoring 14 points in the game, and off the bench, Detroit Lakes got offense from Oliver Quam, Caden Ylliniemi, and Mason Omberg.
The win was the first win for Brett Maass as the new head coach of Detroit Lakes. Maass took over the program this year after spending the last 12 years with Norman County East-Ulen/Hitterdahl.
