DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – The Becker County Commissioners held a second special meeting, Wednesday to move forward with plans to make the County Recorder position appointed rather than elected.
The position opened with the recent death of County Recorder Patty Swenson who had been elected to the position in 2014.
Commissioner Ben Grimsley indicated he hadn’t received any public comment after the first special meeting not to change the position to an appointed position, “I had a couple people approach me and say that it was a good idea and that it makes a lot of sense.”
The board voted 4-1 to move forward with the plan to make the County Recorder appointed with Commissioner Richard Vareberg giving the only dissenting vote.
The public has 30 days to file for a reverse referendum to keep the position elected.
