ALEXANDRIA (KDLM) – The Laker volleyball team had their season end with a loss to the Alexandria Cardinals on Tuesday night in Alexandria. Alexandria beat Detroit Lakes in four sets 25-8, 19-25, 25-23, and 25-22. With the win, the Cardinals advance to the Section 8AAA Championship and will play number two seeded Sauk Rapids-Rice on Saturday at 6 pm. Melrose High School will serve as the neutral site location for the championship game.
After a slow start by the Lakers, they responded with a strong effort in the final three sets. Detroit Lakes relied on powerful outside hits from junior Jalynn Gunderson and sophomore Grace Gunderson. Unofficially Jalynn finished the match with 17 kills and Grace finished the match with 16 kills. The Lakers once again had solid passing from junior setter Kiah Gloege and she also led the team in aces finishing with three.
Detroit Lakes finishes their season with a combined regular-season and postseason record of 10-17. Detroit Lakes only graduates one senior on their roster with Lauren Kaiser graduating in the spring.
