Laker Volleyball Team has their 4-Game Winning Streak Snapped

DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – The Laker volleyball team’s defense could not match Pequot Lakes’ offense on Thursday night as they fell 3-0. The Patriots came into play on a 3-game winning streak and showed everyone in attendance why they are in first place in the Mid-State Conference as they continued their winning streak and snapped the Lakers 4-game winning streak.

At home this season, Detroit Lakes is 1-5. The Patriots have been perfect on the road with a record of 5-0.

The Patriots jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first set to begin the match. That deficit was too much to overcome for the Lakers as they fell in the first set 25-17. The Patriots were led in the first set by Ella Kratochvil, who had four kills. Also, Maci Martini had four kills in the first set.

The second set was a lot closer, with DL and Pequot tied at 8-8. The Patriots found their power once again from the outside and were led by their setter Abi Martin who set up Kratochvil and Martini from the outside en route to a 25-18 win in the second set.

The Patriots dominated the third and final set from start to finish. The Patriots beat the Lakers in the third set, 25-13.

Martini finished the night with three aces and 17 kills, helping Pequot move to 14-2. The win almost assures the Patriots the Mid-State Conference Championship. The Patriots are 5-0 in the Mid-State. The Patriots will return home on Monday when they host Pillager at 7:30 pm.

Detroit Lakes falls to 6-10 on the season and 2-3 in the Mid-State. The Lakers will close out the regular season on Tuesday when they host the Frazee Hornets at the Ralph Anderson Gymnasium. The game will also be ‘Senior Night’ as the Lakers will honor their only senior on the roster, Lauren Kaiser. That game can be heard on KDLM on Tuesday, with pregame coverage beginning at 7:15 pm.

Boys Soccer
The Laker boys soccer team wrapped up the regular season on Thursday at Hillcrest Lutheran Academy. Detroit Lakes fell in the game 3-0. Detroit Lakes finishes the regular season with an overall record of 5-9-1. The Lakers will wait for the playoff seeds to be announced and begin the playoffs next Thursday, October 14th.

Girls Soccer
On Thursday, the Laker girls soccer team fell 1-0 to the Bemidji Lumberjacks at Rotary Soccer Park. The loss extends the Lakers losing streak to four games. Detroit Lakes is now 6-7-1 and will finish their regular season on Saturday at Moorhead.

Swimming
The Laker swim and dive team won in dramatic fashion against Park Rapids on Thursday, beating the Panthers 97 to 89. The Lakers will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Fosston.
