Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – After a heart-breaking loss to Perham last week, the Detroit Lakes Lakers football team returned to Mollberg Field for their homecoming game against winless Pequot Lakes.

Laker students and alumni were treated to a historic “quadruple crown” performance by Christian Solberg, who scored four touchdowns for the Lakers: a rushing touchdown, a passing touchdown, a receiving touchdown, and a kickoff return touchdown in a 32-6 win on Friday night.

The Lakers got off to a great start, recovering a Pequot Lakes fumble deep in their own territory on the Patriots opening drive. Ethan Carrier scored the game’s first touchdown on a 51-yard touchdown run with 7:53 left in the opening quarter. Bradly Swiers would connect with Ty Jones for the two-point conversion to give the Lakers an 8-0 lead.

Solberg scored his first touchdown of the game, a 14-yard rushing touchdown five minutes later. The two-point conversion try was no good, and the Lakers would end the first quarter with a 14-0 lead.

The Laker defense stepped up in the second quarter. After allowing 75 rushing yards to Pequot Lakes in the first quarter, the defense only allowed 24 total yards in the second quarter.

The Laker offense would score two touchdowns in the final two minutes of the quarter: the first a designed halfback pass on an end-around play to Christian Solberg, who would throw a three-yard touchdown to Hunter Korth. The Lakers would again miss the two-point conversion (the Lakers were 1-of-5 on 2-point conversions, with kicker Evan Thomas missing the game with a hip injury).

The Lakers got the ball back at midfield with 54 seconds left in the half. After a 33-yard completion to Jones, Swiers threw a 38-yard touchdown pass to Solberg with 27-seconds left in the half to put the Lakers up 26-0.

Solberg would then return the opening kickoff of the second half 81-yards for the touchdown, his fourth of the night. Solberg leads the Lakers with eight touchdowns this season.

Pequot Lakes would end the Lakers’ shutout with a 44-yard passing touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

Ethan Carrier led the Lakers in yards with 155 rushing yards and a touchdown. Swiers was 6-of-11 passing for 87 yards and a touchdown.

The Lakers improve to 3-2 with the win and will head to Barnesville to face the 3-2 Trojans for their homecoming game. Barnesville beat Pillager 53-0 on Friday night.

Pequot Lakes falls to 0-5, and will face 0-5 Pillager at home next week.
