DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – Becker County Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution to become a 2nd Amendment Dedicated County, Tuesday.

Commissioner Ben Grimsley asked the County to consider the request in February after a resident voiced his concerns about gun control legislation that has been talked about on a Federal level since the the November, Presidential election.

A number of counties in Minnesota including Wadena, Wright and Clearwater have already adopted Second Amendment resolutions which prohibits the enforcement of gun control legislation.

Though the commission approved the resolution unanimously, not all in attendance were in favor of the resolution. Terry Kalil with the League of Women Voters urged the commission to at the very least hold a public forum before voting, “there’s been no public hearing, this was an agenda item coming out of open forum, next thing we know its on the agenda…and the only public notice was on the bottom of the page on Sunday’s newspaper.”

Commissioners, however argued that since the request was made to adopt a resolution in February they’ve been inundated with public comments, both for and against. Without much discussion and no public comment, besides what was said in the open forum the commission passed the resolution.

A copy of the resolution is below:
