DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – Becker County Commissioner, Ben Grimsley has asked the County to consider a request to declare Becker County a Second Amendment Sanctuary county.
A number of counties in Minnesota have already adopted Second Amendment Sanctuary resolutions which prohibits the enforcement of gun control legislation.
During public comments, Tuesday, Joseph Allen told the commission that “the average American citizen is going to be made a felon just because they own a weapon.”
Allen would like the county to stand up and stay united, “I believe to bring calm and peace to people, it is important to stand up and stay united as a county and a city.”
Commissioner Ben Grimsley then asked the county to look into the idea of a Second Amendment Sanctuary county, “In the past I haven’t been supportive of declarations…with the emergency orders and seeing the legislative process bypassed for so long that would be something I would be interested in.”
Joseph Allen’s comments to the county commission are available to listen to in full below.
