DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – Lakes Area Kinship has been named the 2020 Leighton Broadcasting Gratitude on Repeat winner for Detroit Lakes.
Since the launch of our Gratitude on Repeat Campaign, Leighton Broadcasting has pushed to connect nonprofits with radio resources to help their cause come to life. It’s part of our passion to serve, connect, and celebrate our communities since 1975. Through our social media platforms, we asked our listeners to nominate their favorite nonprofit to win 21 radio advertisements per week, for 13 consecutive weeks. Additionally, the winning nonprofits will meet with one of our account executives who will help them create as many as three unique messages for the them to use in their business efforts.
Kinship which is run in partnership with Lakes Crisis Center establishes quality relationships between kids and caring adult volunteers for the purpose of promoting stability, support, friendship, and community. To do that, they use mentors who share a few hours a month for at least one year with their Kinship kid.
Kinship matches kids aged 5-17 with community volunteer mentors to enable as many caring individuals into a child’s life as possible. Every kid should have at least 5 caring adults in their life; kids need as many caring adults in their life as they can get and the more they have the more resilient they’ll be and be able to say no to unhealthy choices, says Stephanie Baker, the Lakes Area Kinship Coordinator.
Lakes Area Kinship is actively seeking new Mentors – if you have interest you’re encouraged to fill out an application at their website https://www.lakescrisis.com/kinship
