Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM)-

The Detroit Lakes Football team will be sporting an updated look this fall, thanks to a generous donation from a DLHS alum.

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen (DLHS Class of ’08) recently donated new uniforms to the Laker football to use in the upcoming 2021 season.

“It was awesome for Adam to give back,” Lakers head coach Reed Hefta told KDLM. “It’s really cool. The kids are very excited.”

Thielen donated new Adidas home and away jerseys, as well as new grey and white pants.

“New look, same standard,” Hefta says.

Hefta also says that DLHS is planning on retiring Thielen’s number at a game at Mollberg Field this season, although they are unsure if they will retire his #19 that he wears with the Vikings or the #21 that he wore while playing for the Lakers.

Thielen and his foundation launched the #ChangeThruSport campaign in 2020, which provides financial support, sports equipment, and apparel to youth football programs. The Thielen Foundation’s mission is to create programs that will equip and empower kids to reach their full potential in life.
