Detroit Lakes Police Officer Thanks Community in Viral Facebook Post

DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – A Detroit Lakes police officer is going viral online for a recent Facebook post.

Robert Strand, a Detroit Lakes police officer for nearly 20 years is celebrating the Lakes Area’s behavior over the 4th of July holiday weekend.

“Never in a million years did I ever think I would experience what I did this past weekend…Over this past weekend we only had 5 people in custody for the entire weekend. 1 of which was for DWI. In previous years we could accomplish that in the first 30 mins of our shift,” Stand said in the post. “We did not get called to a single liquor establishment make that any business for that matter for anyone being unruly or fighting. (I think there were 2 “disturbances “ but they were resolved when we showed up or prior to our arrival) We had no sexual assaults, drunks walking into the wrong house and taking up residency, or accidents as people we leaving the fireworks and heading home.”

Stand says the city turned into a “melting pot” of people from every background and ethnicity – who got along and enjoyed themselves and thanked everyone that came to town for making his weekend one of the most memorable experiences of his career.
