Fireworks Fire Danger High During Independence Day Holiday

Jun 30, 2021 | 10:10 AM

DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – The Detroit Lakes Fire Department is warning residents and vacationers about the dangers of fireworks.

Current fire conditions are very dry and will continue to worsen into the weekend, allowing fires to start very easily and spread quickly. Though most fireworks are not allowed in the state of Minnesota, it isn’t uncommon for fireworks legally sold in North Dakota to find their way across the border.

Detroit Lakes Fire Chief, Ryan Swanson says that if a fire occurs due to fireworks, you may be held responsible for the cost of firefighting efforts and/or damage to private or public property.

The Lakes Area and much of Minnesota is abnormally dry, a majority of the state is declared to be in a moderate or severe drought.
