DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – A benefit is planned for a Detroit Lakes woman who was hit by a hit and run driver in April.

Sue Sonnenberg was hit by a car near the DLCCC while on her daily walk, April 12. According to Police Reports, Sonnenberg was found lying on her left side with blood coming from the left side of her face.

Julius Jermaine Federick, 30, of Perham was captured after crashing into a tree while being pursued by Police just outside of Perham and charged in Becker County District Court with two felony counts of criminal vehicular operation, felony fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, and misdemeanor not stopping after a collision.

The accident fractured Sonnenberg’s pelvis and arm which has kept her from working indefinitely while substantial medical expenses pile up.

“Sunday for Sue” will be held Sunday, June 27 from 10-2pm at Trinity Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes to help with medical expenses. Gifts will be boosted by 20%, up to $5,000 by Lend A Hand Up, a program that helps raise financial help and hope for local families facing medical crisis.

Additionally, funds can be given to the “Sue Sonnenberg Benefit Fund” at Bremer Bank, 115 Holmes Street East, Detroit Lakes, MN 56501.
