Minnesota Power Looing To Receive 18 Percent Rate Increase

By Alex Carmenaty Nov 3, 2026 | 1:59 PM

Detroit Lakes , MN (KDLM/Learfield)- Minnesota Power is asking state regulators to approve what would be an 18 percent rate increase that would raise a customer’s residential bill by $24 a month. Minnesota Power is also looking for an additional $134 million in yearly revenue increase in operating costs, inflation, investments in renewable energy and grid upgrades. The company also points to reduced electricity sales tied to slowdowns in the mining industry. Minnesota Power is also pursuing an interim increase of 15 percent beginning in January, but Minnesota Power says bill credits would offset about 70 percent  of that increase in 2027. The proposal now goes before the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission for review.
