Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Vikings face another division rival in Week Two. Minnesota will be looking to start the season 2-and-0 when it visits the Chicago Bears on Sunday.
The Vikes are coming off a thrilling 39-22 win over the Green Bay Packers. Minnesota trailed 22-10 late in the third quarter before scoring 29 straight points.
The biggest question heading into Sunday is who will be under center. Starting quarterback Kyler Murray entered the NFL’s concussion protocol after taking a hit in the first quarter against Green Bay. Murray was limited in practice again Thursday, and veteran Carson Wentz is in line to start if Murray can’t play. Head coach Kevin O’Connell says Murray has to be medically cleared before the team will even discuss putting him in a game. Wentz played the rest of the way after Murray went down against the Packers, and Sunday would be the 100th start of his NFL career.
The Vikings will also be without running back Jordan Mason. He was placed on injured reserve with a broken thumb after running for 59 yards and a touchdown in the opener. Aaron Jones Sr. remains atop the depth chart. Right tackle Brian O’Neill sat out Thursday’s practice with a knee injury.
Chicago is also unbeaten after a 59-37 win at Carolina. The Bears ran for 291 yards and six touchdowns, their most rushing yards in a game since 1984. Running backs D’Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai both topped 100 yards, though both are on the Bears’ injury report this week.
The teams split their two meetings last season. The Vikings won the opener in Chicago 27-24 with a fourth-quarter comeback, and the Bears took the rematch 19-17 on a field goal as time expired.
Kickoff Sunday at Soldier Field is set for 12:00 p.m. on FOX.
