The Becker County Food Pantry is preparing for its first ever Walk for Hunger later this month.
Alissa Mork, Director of Development for the Becker County Food Pantry, says the event is planned for Sunday, September 27, and is designed to raise awareness of hunger and food insecurity in Becker County, as well as raise money to help the pantry purchase food.
Mork says the pantry is seeing more new households seeking assistance. In a typical month, the pantry serves between 500 and 600 different households and spends about $25,000 on food.
Registration is a suggested donation of $25 per person or $50 per family. Pre-register by September 8 and receive a free insulated grocery bag.
Taco John’s is also offering free burrito coupons to the first 50 people who register. Bluebird Books and the Detroit Lakes Lions Club are also sponsors.
The 3K walk begins at 1 pm at the Becker County Highway Department on North Tower Road in Detroit Lakes and ends at the food pantry on Terry Street, where an open house with food and refreshments will be held.
Same day registration will be available from noon to 1 pm at the Highway Department.
