Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – Minnesota United FC returns to Allianz Field on Saturday night off its most lopsided win of the season.
The Loons scored five unanswered goals in a 5-1 win at San Jose on Saturday. The Earthquakes struck first in the fourth minute, but Minnesota answered in the 10th and never trailed again, adding goals in the 40th, 44th, 65th and 86th minutes. Minnesota won without controlling the run of play, finishing with 44% possession and 11 shots to San Jose’s 10.
The win extended a stretch of steady results. Minnesota has taken at least a point in four of its last five matches, drawing three of them. The only setback in that run was a 2-1 home loss to Atlanta United on August 19th.
That leaves the Loons at seven wins, seven losses and seven draws for 28 points, 10th in the Western Conference and level on points with Colorado, Real Salt Lake and Portland. Ten matches remain in the regular season, starting Saturday.
Orlando City SC arrives at 7:30 p.m. The Lions are 7-11-3 and sit ninth in the Eastern Conference with 24 points.
