Minnesota hunters are being reminded by the Minnesota DNR that the deadline to enter the antlerless deer lottery is September 10.
Hunters who want to hunt antlerless deer in a lottery permit area during the firearm or muzzleloader season must apply for an either-sex permit. Hunters who purchase their license by the deadline are automatically entered into the lottery for the permit area they select.
The September 10 deadline also applies to applications for adult special firearms hunts. New this year, hunters can apply for both the antlerless permit lottery and special hunts.
Meanwhile, the Minnesota bear hunting season opens September 1, and the DNR is asking hunters not to shoot marked research bears.
The bears have large, colorful ear tags and radio collars. The DNR is currently monitoring 50 radio-collared black bears across the state as part of its research program.
