Vikings Bring Back Jonathan Harris, Sign TE Matt Lauter Ahead of Cutdown Deadline

Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Twins opened their series in Sacramento with a 9-6 win over the Athletics Monday night, ending a three-game losing streak.

Right-hander Zebby Matthews took the win after seven strong innings, striking out seven and allowing one earned run on six hits with one walk.

Minnesota scored in five different innings and pounded out 16 hits. Byron Buxton reached base four times and came around to score four runs. Shortstop Kaelen Culpepper finished 4-for-5, and Josh Bell drove in three. Ryan Kreidler added a solo home run, and Luke Keaschall and Kody Clemens each knocked in a pair.

The Twins carried a 9-2 lead into the ninth before the Athletics rallied for four runs. Andrew Morris came on to record the final out and pick up the save. Jeffrey Springs took the loss for the Athletics, giving up four earned runs over 4 2/3 innings.

Jeff McNeil and Henry Bolte each had three hits for the Athletics, who out-hit their season average with 12 on the night but stranded runners early.

The three-game set continues tonight at 8:40 p.m. Minnesota wraps up the road trip Wednesday before returning to Target Field on Friday, August 28th to open a series against the Chicago White Sox.
