The Becker County Fair Tractor Parade returns Saturday, August 1, with dozens of tractors rolling through Detroit Lakes. This year, organizers will also honor one of the event’s longtime supporters.
The parade is dedicated to the memory of Jim Matter, who played a key role in the annual tradition. His son, Joel, will serve as this year’s featured driver in tribute to his father.
Organizer Tom Mack outlined the day’s schedule. Registered parade participants will gather for breakfast at 8 am at Adkins Equipment on Richwood Road before the parade begins. The tractors will then travel down Roosevelt Avenue, turn onto Willow Street and end at the Becker County Fairgrounds. Mack says spectators line the route each year to watch the tractors roll by.
About 75 tractors typically take part, ranging from vintage models to a few newer machines. The only requirement is that they go 5-6 mph and ride on rubber tires.
Mack says one of his favorite parts of the event is gathering for breakfast before the parade, where participants share stories about past parades and their favorite tractors.
Awards will be presented under the big tent at the Becker County Fairgrounds beginning at 11:30 am.
Founded in 2009, the Becker County Fair Tractor Parade has become a favorite tradition during fair week.
