DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – It had been 327 days since Detroit Lakes had their last game. The long layover ended on Thursday night when the Kittson County Central Bearcats traveled to the Kent Freeman Arena. For the Bearcats, they hadn’t played a game in 329 days. Their last game was against the Detroit Lakes in the Section 8A quarterfinals last February.
Both teams kicked off the rust on Thursday night, with the Bearcats getting off to a faster start with Sophomore Tyler Hennen scoring in the first 4 minutes of the game. The Bearcats tallied another goal early in the 1st period, with Adam Gustafson adding his name to the scoresheet. After the slow start, Detroit Lakes stopped the scoring by answering with 3 of their own to secure the victory with a 3-2 final.
Beau Boehne, Jayden Geerdes, and Jacob McAllister got on the Lakers’ score sheet, who improved to 1-0 on the season. McAllister got credit for the game-winner scoring with less than a minute remaining in the game. Jack Hines was the winning goaltender as he faced 32 shots from the Kittson County Central offense. With the win, Hines moves his career record to 10-8-1.
