Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Twins have lost five straight games and are now down another starting pitcher.
Pittsburgh completed a sweep with a 9-3 win at PNC Park. The Pirates broke things open with five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take control. Brooks Lee homered twice for Minnesota, but Zebby Matthews was charged with his third loss of the season after allowing seven runs on six hits in four-and-a-third innings.
The skid leaves the Twins at 27-and-33, third place in the American League Central.
Minnesota is also dealing with another hit to its rotation. The team placed right-hander Bailey Ober on the 15-day injured list over the weekend with inflammation in his pitching elbow. The 30-year-old is 6-and-3 with a 4.59 ERA in 12 starts this season.
The Twins will try to end the losing streak tonight when Joe Ryan starts against the Chicago White Sox.
