Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Twins fell to the New York Mets 3-2 Wednesday night at Citi Field, giving up a late run in a tight pitcher’s duel.
The game was knotted at two heading into the bottom of the 8th inning when reliever Justin Topa surrendered a go-ahead single to Mark Vientos, plating what would become the winning run. Taylor Rogers took the loss out of the bullpen.
Byron Buxton provided the highlight for Minnesota, launching a home run in the losing effort.
The defeat dropped the Twins to 12-12 on the season, while the loss also snapped a 12-game losing streak for the Mets, who had been mired in one of the worst stretches in baseball before the win.
Right-hander Joe Ryan takes the mound for Minnesota tonight at Citi Field.
