Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Timberwolves are in an early hole in the first round of the NBA Playoffs.
Minnesota dropped Game 1 to the Denver Nuggets 116-105 Saturday night at Ball Arena. The Wolves led by as many as 12 points in the first half, but Denver answered with a 17-2 run in the third quarter to seize control of a physical series opener.
Jamal Murray led all scorers with 30 points for the Nuggets, going a perfect 16-for-16 from the free-throw line. Nikola Jokic added a triple-double with 25 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists.
Anthony Edwards paced Minnesota with 22 points while playing through a sore right knee. He also recorded seven assists, which made him the franchise’s career postseason assists leader.
The Timberwolves cut Denver’s lead to 97-95 with 6:23 remaining in the fourth, but the Nuggets closed the game on a late push to hold on. The contest featured 42 fouls and multiple technicals, including one on Wolves forward Jaden McDaniels.
