Wild Dominate Stars 6-1 in Playoff Opener

Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Wild dominated the Dallas Stars with a 6-1 victory in Game One of the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs at American Airlines Center on Saturday.

The Wild led 1-0 after the first period before scoring three goals in the opening six-and-a-half minutes of the second. Joel Eriksson Ek and Matt Boldy each scored twice, while Kirill Kaprizov and Ryan Hartman also lit the lamp. Mats Zuccarello chipped in three assists.

Eriksson Ek opened the scoring on a 1st-period power play. Kaprizov added his goal 56 seconds into the 2nd period, tying Zach Parise for the most playoff goals in Wild franchise history with 16. Hartman and Boldy followed to push the lead to 4-0 before Dallas got on the board with a Jason Robertson power-play goal. Eriksson Ek scored his 2nd of the night on another power play in the 3rd, and Boldy added an empty-netter with 3:08 left.

Goaltender Jesper Wallstedt made 27 saves in his Stanley Cup Playoff debut.

Minnesota leads 1-0 in the best-of-seven series. Game Two is tonight in Dallas at 8:30 p.m.
