Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – It looked like a comfortable Minnesota victory. Then it looked like a stunning Houston upset. Then, somehow, it was a Timberwolves win.

The Timberwolves survived one of the wilder finishes of the NBA season Wednesday night, outlasting the Houston Rockets 110-108 in overtime at a stunned Target Center — thanks to a comeback within a comeback.

Minnesota held an 11-point lead with the game seemingly in hand in the fourth quarter, only to watch Houston reel off a jaw-dropping 26-2 run that stretched into overtime and put the Rockets up 13. The crowd went quiet. The season-long momentum Minnesota had been building threatened to unravel in real time.

But the Wolves answered with a 15-0 run of their own to close out the game, holding on for a two-point win that will be talked about in Minneapolis for a long time.

Jaden McDaniels led all scorers with 25 points, while Julius Randle added 24 in a dominant two-man effort for Minnesota’s offense. Their composure during the final run was the difference.

With the victory, Minnesota improves to 45-28 and holds fifth place in the Western Conference standings. The Wolves return to the Target Center on Saturday to host the Detroit Pistons.
