Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Perham Yellowjackets’ remarkable postseason journey came to a close Wednesday at Target Center, falling to top-seeded Goodhue 70-49 in the Class 2A quarterfinals of the Minnesota State Boys Basketball Tournament.
The eighth-seeded Yellowjackets, who earned their spot on the big stage with an 18-12 regular season record, found themselves in a hole early as the Wildcats jumped out to a commanding 36-18 halftime lead and never looked back.
Goodhue was simply firing on all cylinders, with four players reaching double figures. Alex Loos led the way with 20 points, while Luke Roschen contributed 17, Cody Ryan 11, and Michael Roschen 10 — a balanced, deep attack that proved difficult for Perham to contain.
Isaiah Farrell and Cypress Thiel were bright spots for Perham, each finishing with 10 points, but the Yellowjackets could not generate enough offense to keep pace with a Goodhue squad that extended its winning streak to 23 games and improved to 30-1 on the season.
Despite the defeat, Perham’s run to the state tournament was a season to remember. Goodhue advances to Friday’s Class 2A semifinals, but Perham can hold its head high knowing it competed on Minnesota’s biggest stage.
