Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – A streak that had stood for years came to an end Thursday night at Xcel Energy Center, as the Minnesota Wild dropped a 2-1 decision to the Chicago Blackhawks.
Nico Sturm provided the lone bright spot for Minnesota, lighting the lamp for the Wild’s only goal of the evening. But it wasn’t enough to overcome a Blackhawks squad that played a disciplined, defensive game and made their opportunities count.
The loss snaps an impressive run of dominance Minnesota had enjoyed against their Central Division rival, a streak that had become one of the more remarkable head-to-head records in the league.
Despite the setback, the Wild remain in a strong playoff position, sitting third in the Central Division with 90 points on the season. Minnesota will look to bounce back quickly with no time to dwell — the Dallas Stars come to town Saturday afternoon for a 3:00 p.m. puck drop.
