Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The North Dakota State Bison will look to pull off one of March Madness’s signature upsets Thursday afternoon when they face the Michigan State Spartans in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament at 3:05 p.m.
Entering as a 14-seed against the third-seeded Spartans, the Bison carry plenty of momentum into the matchup. North Dakota State captured the Summit League championship after a dominant 14-2 run through conference play, finishing the regular season with an impressive 27-7 overall record.
Despite the strong resume, history has not been kind to the Bison on the national stage. NDSU enters today’s contest with a 1-4 all-time record in NCAA Tournament appearances, making a deep run an uphill climb — but not an impossible one.
Still, upsets are the lifeblood of March Madness, and a double-digit seed toppling a top-three team is far from unheard of. The Bison will need a complete performance to knock off the Spartans, but their conference-tested roster gives them a fighting chance.
Tip-off is scheduled for 3:05 p.m. in Buffalo, New York.
