Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – Minnesota United FC made a splash in the transfer market Thursday, acquiring Colombian international James Rodríguez from Liga MX club León.
The 34-year-old forward brings world-class experience to the Loons, having previously starred for European giants Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Everton. Rodríguez, who won the Golden Boot at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, adds significant attacking firepower to Minnesota’s roster.
Rodríguez spent the current season with León, recording three goals and two assists across 14 appearances. The playmaker’s creative vision and technical ability could provide the spark Minnesota United needs as they push toward the playoffs.
The acquisition represents one of the most high-profile signings in club history, as the Loons continue to build a competitive roster capable of contending in Major League Soccer’s Western Conference.
Terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed. Rodríguez is expected to join the team pending the receipt of his International Transfer Certificate and P-1 visa.
