Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Gophers suffered a devastating collapse Wednesday night, blowing an 18-point halftime advantage in a 67-63 loss to the Wisconsin Badgers at the Kohl Center.
Minnesota appeared to be cruising toward a signature road victory after building a commanding lead in the first half. However, the Gophers were completely overwhelmed after the break, getting outscored 50-28 in the second half as Wisconsin stormed back for the comeback win.
Bobby Durkin led Minnesota with 20 points in the losing effort, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the Gophers from extending their struggles in conference play.
The loss dropped Minnesota to 3-7 in Big Ten competition and 10-11 overall, putting the team squarely on the NCAA Tournament bubble with significant work remaining in the season.
The Gophers will look to rebound when they travel to face Penn State on Sunday.
Minnesota will need to find answers quickly to stop the second-half defensive breakdowns that have plagued them in recent games, particularly on the road in hostile Big Ten environments.
