Losing a loved one can be overwhelming, and finding peace afterward isn’t easy. The Lakes Area is fortunate to have strong grief support for those facing loss.
Grief Care Coordinator Mary Swenson leads several after-care programs for individuals and families throughout the year. She hosts Caring Cup, a monthly, open support group that meets at four different locations and offers conversation, companionship, and coffee. Anyone may join at any time.
Swenson also coordinates the annual Surviving the Holidays seminar, which focuses on loss and the hope to come.
At the end of the year, a holiday memorial service is held, offering a special time to honor loved ones together.
A community memorial service is also planned for late spring or early summer.
In addition, Swenson leads GriefShare, a nationally recognized 13-week program designed to help participants find hope and healing after loss.
She encourages anyone walking through grief not to do it alone, reminding the community that healing often begins with connection. She says reaching out—whether to a support group, a friend, or a neighbor—can be a meaningful step toward hope and healing.
These after-care services are offered through David-Donehower Funeral and Cremation Service, West-Kjos Funeral Home, Furey Funeral Home, and Schoeneberger Funeral and Cremation Service. For dates and details, contact any of these providers.
