BERTHA (KDLM) – A Bertha-Hewitt graduate broke both legs during a graduation ceremony, Friday.
During the graduation, Senior, Julie Ellis fell and broke both her legs prior to reaching the stage. “Ellis has brittle bone disease and it was her goal to walk across the stage to receive her diploma,” said the Bertha-Hewitt School District in a facebook post.
Ellis was rushed to Gilletes Children’s Hospital and had her legs put in splint, before having them put in casts. The school district is planning a surprise graduation ceremony for Ellis, Tuesday at 3 p.m. in the gym. Doors open at 2:15 p.m. and anyone is welcome to attend the event.
