Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Laker football team delivered a statement performance Tuesday night, crushing the number four-seeded St. Cloud Tech Tigers 34-0 in the Section 8AAAA quarterfinals and avenging an earlier regular-season defeat.
The dominant playoff victory marked the Lakers’ second win of the season and showcased a team hitting its stride at exactly the right time.
After building a 14-0 halftime advantage, the Lakers exploded in the second half, adding three more touchdowns to put the game out of reach. Running back Ryan Francis led the ground attack with a monster performance, rushing for over 150 yards and punching in two touchdowns to pace the Lakers’ offense.
The defense was equally impressive, recording the shutout and containing a Tigers team that had previously defeated the Lakers during the regular season.
The victory sets up a semifinals showdown with the top-seeded Fergus Falls Otters on Saturday. The Otters defeated the Lakers 28-14 in their September 5th regular season meeting, but this Lakers squad has shown it’s capable of rising to the occasion when the stakes are highest.
