Menahga, MN – The Wadena County Sheriff’s Office has released the identity of the man killed in rural Menahga last week after a tree fell on top of him.
Deputies say that around 2:45 p.m. Thursday, October 9, 41-year-old Ryan Michael McNeil of rural Park Rapids, who worked for a private tree removal service, had climbed up a tree at a rural residence northeast of Menahga to saw off the top portion. While he was cutting, the base of the tree broke, causing it to tip over. McNeil fell to the ground with the tree falling on top of him.
Deputies say they arrived on the scene and found that CPR had been started. Live saving measures were continued, but McNeil was ultimately pronounced deceased.
The Sheriff’s Office says the incident is still under investigation.
