Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The spotlight of Sunday Night Football will illuminate U.S. Bank Stadium this weekend as the Minnesota Vikings welcome the Atlanta Falcons in what promises to be a compelling quarterback matchup between two familiar foes.

Vikings rookie JJ McCarthy and Falcons signal-caller Michael Penix Jr. will square off for the first time since their memorable clash in the 2024 College Football Playoff National Championship, when McCarthy led Michigan to victory over Penix’s Washington Huskies.

McCarthy made an immediate impact in his NFL debut last Sunday, orchestrating a dramatic fourth-quarter comeback against the Chicago Bears. The former Wolverine threw for two touchdowns and added a rushing score in the final frame, leading Minnesota to a thrilling 27-24 victory.

The Vikings enter Sunday’s contest with historical momentum on their side, having captured six of their last seven meetings against Atlanta.

Sunday’s kickoff is scheduled for 7:20 p.m.
